Commissions
I take on many different types of commissions - Portraits, Still Life, Seascapes, etc. Examples are below. I paint in oil & I draw in charcoal or graphite. If you’d like to commission your own custom piece, please contact me at padula_anthony@yahoo.com or 617.519.9811.
Walt Disney Pictures
Marblehead is steeped in history, beautifully preserved, and one of New England’s best kept secrets. But movie production companies have taken notice of its charm, occasionally filming in Old-Town – on Washington Street, where my studio is located. Last year, Walt Disney Pictures shot several scenes there for their movie, Godmothered. The set designer noticed my work in my window, and was interested in two specific floral paintings for the main character’s house. But each had already sold. Disney asked me to paint them a second time, and licensed both for the film. The movie was released in December 2020.
Sisters
It’s great when someone can’t forget a painting they have seen in their travels. It’s even better when someone cares about them enough to make sure they have it, one way or another. That’s how this piece started. A mother and her two daughters visited my studio in 2018 – the mother purchased a floral painting, one of her daughters did as well, and the other had her eye on a small seascape, but left without it. Two years later, her sister came back to buy it for her as a birthday gift – but it had sold by then. As I told her, what’s been painted can be painted again. And she commissioned me to replicate the original as closely as possible.
Unexpected
This piece started in my studio where I often work on portrait technique. I asked the sitter to pose with a book. The Catcher in the Rye was nearby, and that’s what she’s holding. She read it for the first time while she sat for me. I love the book – she didn’t. She loved the painting – I had no intention of finishing it. But she commissioned me to complete it as a gift for her parents.
A Christmas Gift
A Christmas commission of 3 siblings, a gift from their mom to their dad.
Charlotte
This is a portrait of Charlotte. It was commissioned by her mother, who wanted a classic, old-master style and palette. Charlotte’s dress was actually white, but I was asked to paint it a very soft blush color. With the lighting, shadows, and contrast, it was a perfect choice.
Liberty
My client loved a piece done by JW Wyeth - son of the great Andrew Wyeth. She also loved her dog, Liberty, who had recently passed away. She commissioned me for a large portrait of Liberty - set in her favorite Wyeth painting.
Patsy
I love all my clients. But these little still life’s were commissioned by one of my favorites. Patsy has supported me for many years, and can always describe what she wants – while leaving the door open for something special to happen. "I want something very small, Anthony. Maybe an egg?” “I want four paintings, each with fruit – but absolutely nothing else.” She's commissioned me several times and often brings in her own antique frames - like those here. I’ve been fortunate to see my work in her home, which is part of one of the most beautiful, private art collections I’ve ever seen.
